refuge logo08The Refuge at Jumper Creek is the ONLY homeless shelter in Sumter County, and one of the only shelters in central Florida, with the capacity to house unaccompanied adults, both single mothers and single fathers, and intact family units.

On any given day, we house between 20 and 30 men, women, and young children. We offer a comprehensive array of services in order to ensure that when families leave us, they’re ready to transition back into society as productive and independent people. We also operate a mobile unit at the Wildwood truck stop area every Monday afternoon from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.  We hand out sandwiches, nonperishable food items, clothing, jackets, blankets, and personal hygiene items to those living in and around the wooded areas surrounding the truck stop.  We are also able to assist individuals applying for ACCESS benefits, including Medicaid and EST benefits (food stamps).

Much of our program operates solely on the kindness and generosity of volunteers who are ready and willing to share what they know and have a willingness to help others. To get involved as a volunteer or to donate, please contact Andrea Engle at (352) 561-8233 or or call The Refuge at (352) 568-8400.
